We are seeking an experienced and motivated Personal Injury / Civil Litigation Paralegal to join our growing litigation practice. This individual will play a critical role in supporting attorneys, advocating for clients, and ensuring the efficient management of complex legal matters.
Position Summary
The Personal Injury / Civil Litigation Paralegal will provide comprehensive litigation support from case inception through resolution. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing a substantial caseload while maintaining exceptional client service and professionalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage personal injury and civil litigation files from intake through settlement, trial, or resolution.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining regular communication and providing case updates.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, and legal correspondence.
- Coordinate and monitor all litigation deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements.
- Obtain, review, organize, and summarize medical records, billing records, employment records, and other relevant documents.
- Prepare settlement demand packages and assist attorneys with case valuation and settlement negotiations.
- Schedule depositions, mediations, court appearances, expert consultations, and client meetings.
- Assist with discovery management, including document production and organization.
- Conduct factual investigations and legal research.
- Prepare trial notebooks, exhibits, witness files, and demonstrative evidence.
- Coordinate with expert witnesses, medical providers, insurance carriers, and court personnel.
- Support attorneys during mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and jury trials.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper case files in compliance with firm protocols.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in personal injury litigation, civil litigation, or a related practice area.
- Working knowledge of Illinois civil procedure and litigation practices.
- Experience handling plaintiff personal injury matters preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience in Illinois state courts and federal court filings.
- Trial preparation and courtroom support experience.
- Familiarity with e-filing systems and litigation technology platforms.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical record review.
